Parker J. Han is an illustrator and visual storyteller who creates captivating and dynamic images with meaningful and authentic details. He enjoys including witty humour, mystery, weirdness, darkness or all of the above in his work. He also likes working with historical or fantastical themes to escape the dullness of the contemporary world.

Jurassic Park

Inspired by the epic words of Michael Crichton’s techno-thriller Jurassic Park, I created eight interior illustrations for the novel. The illustrations feature appropriately dramatic representations to complement the book, but they remain visually distinct from the movie. In the case of the dinosaurs, even though modern discoveries suggest a different anatomy, I chose to uphold the novel’s descriptions.

The Extraordineers Society

The Extraordineers Society was founded at an unknown time in an unknown location by individuals who will remain anonymous. The goal of the Extraordineer is to seek out and record the extraordinary, to capture the wonder in the mundanity of the modern world. A mysterious website inventories the items of a kit issued to Extraordineers to assist in their mission and provides information about the society. The kit features designs for pocket notebooks, postcards, bookmarks, pins, patches, shirts, hats, and pencils. The designs are infused with nature motifs and quirks. This project combined several inspirations that include: the aesthetics of mid-century outdoorsy design, the stylings of Wes Anderson, the feeling of summer camp and a general longing for adventure.

Battle of the Fiddles: Johnny vs Satan

This poster reimagines the story of the country rock song “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” by The Charlie Daniels Band as a competition poster with animal characters. The poster references the song’s setting, including Georgian state animals and Spanish Moss trees. I also incorporated references to the band and shapes reminiscent of a fiddle. For typefaces and layout, I looked to vintage country style posters that use woodblock printing.

Search and Find Adventure

In this fantasy adventure-themed search-and-find book, a company of miniature heroes is on a quest to defeat a giant villain in an intimidatingly vast world. Each of the book’s eight spreads follows the heroes to a different location with increasingly dangerous challenges and features selected items for readers to find. Many more surprises await the patient and keen-eyed reader.
