Kara Swartz
Kara is an aspiring concept artist from Ontario, Canada, whose work ranges from observed landscapes to imaginative creatures. Influenced by Impressionism, she seeks to integrate its principles into her digital work. She incorporates the perfect lighting and atmosphere to captivate her audience. Driven by curiosity, Kara spends her free time hiking, exploring new places, or learning new skills, all of which inspire her art.
Subaquatic
A visual development package for an underwater survival game set on an alien planet. Players take on the role of one of several creatures navigating a hostile environment filled with predators and deadly plants. The package includes a set of creature, environment, and trap/item designs.
The Adventure
This project is inspired by George Marsh’s poem “The Old Canoe” from the 1800s. Written from the perspective of a canoe, the poem reflects on the lifetime of adventures it has experienced across central and northern Ontario and Quebec.
Subaquatic Envisioned
A digital application for the game development package. It consists of two 3D models of the creatures to demonstrate their movement, scale, and dynamics.
The Stolen Bacillus
A 16-page graphic novel based on H.G. Wells’s short story “The Stolen Bacillus.” The story takes place in 19th-century London and follows an anarchist who manipulates his way into a bacteriologist’s lab and steals what he believes is a vial of cholera. A chase ensues.
