Hi there, I’m Kai!

I’m a Chinese-Canadian illustrator based in Toronto, ON with a passion for character design, colour, and games. When I’m not creating art, I spend my free time playing video games, going down research rabbit holes on Classical antiquity, and daydreaming about new characters and their stories.

Niysus

  A character design of a character named Niysus, a young, timid champion of the sun god (left) turned vengeful warrior-god (right) from a world inspired by the mythology and culture of both ancient Greece and China. The two designs show his appearance at the beginning and end of his story.

Altair

  A character design of a character named Altair, a mysterious traveler (left) revealed to be the god of medicine and healing (right) from a world inspired by the mythology and culture of both ancient Greece and China. The two designs show his appearance at the beginning and end of his story.

“Death”

  An illustration of my characters Altair and Niysus depicted on the tarot card “Death”. After Altair sheds light on the true nature of Niysus’s divine father, the sun god, Niysus tries to defy his own fate by opposing his father. The battle ends poorly for him, and as he dies in front of Altair, the god of healing considers meddling in this mortal’s affairs.
