Hayoung Kim

Hayoung Kim is a Toronto-based narrative illustrator. She grew up surrounded by comics and animation, which inspired her dream to create her own visual stories. Kim’s original stories unfold in comics and children’s books. Her work explores the emotions and growth that take place in everyday life.

Looking Back

A comic inspired by the pop song, “Old Me” by 5 Seconds of Summer. The story is about embracing and accepting our past. Every decision, whether right or wrong, has led to who we are today.

The Boy on the River Island

Through pictures only, this children’s book explores the importance of learning how to interact with others as members of a community. Targeted to children ages 7–10.

The Journey

A series that illustrates the artist’s short trip through a trail between school and the coffee shop.

Out of Sight, Out of Mind

A comic about people who are in a virtual video game world—being out of sight and out of mind from their real lives. The characters struggle to overcome their fear of returning to the real world.
