Ellie Shim

Ellie is an Ontario-based illustrator with a focus on editorial and narrative illustration. She loves to use bright colours, gradients and line work. With her head in the clouds, her work gravitates towards dreamlike, surreal sequences. A lot of her work consists of “slice of life” inspired by real-world experiences with an imaginative twist.

What Happens During R.E.M Sleep

A horror zine book filled with glimpses of the strangest dreams and nightmares I’ve experienced drawn as sequential illustrations. The zine also sheds light on what it is like for someone to suffer from a condition called Sleep Paralysis and what that experience might look and feel like firsthand.

Bedrooms

You can tell a lot about a person from the room they spend the most time in, sleep in, and wake up in: the bedroom. Bedrooms is a series of illustrations of bedrooms that belong to people from different occupations and backgrounds. These rooms convey who they are and what they do. It is their safe space, whether or not they fit societal norms. Just like humans, the quirks of our bedrooms can get pretty bizarre.

Gentle Escapes

A collection of illustrations about finding pleasure in everyday, mundane, and relatable activities such as commuting, bathing, meditating, and sleeping, reimagined in a fun way.
