Rileigh Belarmino is a multidisciplinary Filipino-Canadian artist who loves creating quirky, textural, shape-based illustrations that make publications, brands, and advertisements stand out from the crowd. In their free time, Rileigh enjoys destroying their family in Wii Play and going out to karaoke with friends. (Michael Jackson songs are a must.)

Book Cover Redesign

A set of four existing books, each with a redesigned dust jacket. The set has an encompassing theme of human connection, which shows up in different ways in each story. Visual design and typography come together in this project to create eye-catching illustrations that work both up close and from afar on shelves.

Postcards

A three-part narrative in postcard format, which stemmed from a real-life journey; elements from the adventure incorporate colour palettes, logos, and architecture seen around Toronto. The story follows a person and their dog as they discover something glowing and mystical on their nightly walk.

Despina

A collage-inspired illustration based on Italo Calvino’s novel, Invisible Cities. Bold shapes were made entirely using the lasso tool to emulate the organic shapes of Nubian architecture, as well as the colours/texture pulled from Moroccan and Turkish culture.

Flos

An experimental project created from a scanned black and white collage of flowers, with additional textures and effects. The juxtaposed compositions of organized and chaotic between the two pieces creates a balanced pair.

Tagay

Tagay (meaning “cheers” in Tagalog) is a canned craft-cocktail brand with Filipino-inspired flavours and packaging. The bright colours and different textures pay homage to the culture. Packaging is also inspired by the Filipino holiday Pahiyas, which celebrates a bountiful harvest.
