Nikkita Rose Couto
I’m a Mississauga-based illustrator, passionate about storytelling through bold textures, thoughtful compositions, and dynamic colour. My process is deeply exploratory and experimental—I see each project as a chance to uncover something new. While I primarily work with traditional media, such as acrylic and mixed media, I love blending these hands-on techniques with digital tools to expand what’s possible in visual storytelling.
Narrative, concept, and metaphor are central to my work. Whether developing a character, illustrating a moment, or building a world, I strive to create images that resonate beyond the surface. For me, the creative journey is just as exciting as the outcome.
A Flurry Just for You
Illustrations for a children’s book written by Nikkita about a little girl whose biggest wish is to see snow. Her dad, who suffers from physical and mental health issues, tries his best to make it happen. These illustrations are made using acrylic painted textures that are colourful and playful, then digitally manipulated and collaged.

Brand Identity for Medium Build
The song “Rabbit” by Medium Build was used to develop assets for the visualizer and its merch. This branding is aimed at indie music lovers, giving it an uncanny shape-based design with a distinctive style. I based my designs on my interpretation of the song: we are always waiting for something to happen, whether finding love or getting rich and successful, only to be met with disappointment and feeling crushed and unfulfilled every time.

Finding Our Way Back
This zine, conceived of and written by Nikkita, explores what can be done with narrative, involving world-building and character-building. Materials used are charcoal and graphite.
Aftermath
A collection of 24” x 36” acrylic and mixed media paintings. Expressed through texture, colour, and composition, each piece explores the physiological effect of traumatic moments: how we reflect on and remember them and how they stay with us long afterward.

Environmental Storytelling
The environment tells the story of who the character is based on their lived-in space.
