Johannes Blum
Johannes Blum is an illustrator, writer, and reader devoted to analog mixed media. He specializes in narrative illustrations and stories about loneliness, aliens, and bird people. Through detailed ink drawings and paintings, Johannes showcases the characters of people, places, and stories that we can only hope exist somewhere. He works mostly in experimental and traditional comics, as well as narrative illustrations and editorials.
Alienation
Dip pen illustrations based on a collection of Johannes’ literary sci-fi shorts centring around loneliness and finding comfort in the strange. One man finds a good place to die after his spaceship crashes, and another bonds with his alien parasite.

Canadiana
The Canadian political experiment has failed, and the country is splitting. Two friends decide to travel across a singular, whole country for the last time and reflect on their splintered relationships along the way. An experimental graphic novel formatted to a collaged map of Canada.
The Alpics
Three researchers are invited on a diplomatic mission to experience the culture of an alien planet—the Alpics, a split species of creatures that live in a land that cyclically floods. The book features a selection of pages structured like a research journal, with writing and illustrations detailing the society of these aliens from the perspective of the researchers.
Narrative Postcards
Walking through Oakville and observing the development of human suburbs, the nature paths and the distant city. Shows the intersections between nature and the city/suburbs.

“Everywhere, a Crow is Black…”
A short comic based on the Malagasy proverb “Crows are black everywhere.” Two crows debate the meaning of an ancient text they’ve lost context for, ultimately learning nothing.
